Rhinoplasty intervention (nose surgery) in Tunisia

Rhinoplasty  is cosmetic nose surgery.

It must be natural, in harmony with the face. The primary goal of rhinoplasty is to obtain a natural result.

Rhinoplasty must repair the disgrace while maintaining harmony in the face.

More than in any other cosmetic surgery procedure, the choice of a surgeon specializing in rhinoplasty is essential.

Anesthesia : general
Duration of the intervention : 1h to 1h30
Recovery: 10 to 15 days.

Pre-operative assessment: blood test, lung X-ray for smokers and an electrocardiogram for people over 45 years old.

Rhinoplasty is an extremely meticulous job where each cartilage or bone section, each tissue resection, each suture, however small, will have a significant influence on the result.

The surgeon will sculpt structures deformed by nature or trauma to find an anatomical shape as close as possible to natural reality.

The scars

As with any surgery, there are scars. Usually these scars are located inside the nose and are not a problem.

The  external incisions may be required:

  • Either hidden at the base of the wings of the nose if the size of the nostrils has to be reduced

  • Either across the columella (pillar separating the two nostrils)

If bone or cartilage grafts are taken, there are other scars, which are located behind the ears, in the hair, at the hip, or under the breast depending on the case.

In some cases, it is possible to combine rhinoplasty with genioplasty (chin surgery) to improve the profile. This procedure can be performed at the same time as the rhinoplasty.

Ethnic rhinoplasty (ethnic nose surgery)

Ethnic Rhinoplasty corresponds to the rhinoplasty of patients with black or Asian skin. In patients of black or Asian origin, the nose can be distinguished by:

  • The importance of skin thickness

  • Wide nostrils (flat nose)

  • a wide or flattened nasal bridge

  • A nasal tip enlarged and lacking in projection.

These aesthetic features are due to a lack of development of nasal bone and cartilaginous structures. Ethnic rhinoplasty uses surgical techniques that aim to "reduce the nose  from the front, and "enhance" it from the side by placing cartilage or bone grafts. a plastic surgery to reduce the width of the nostrils can also complete the procedure.

What are the consequences after rhinoplasty?

At first the nose is swollen and irregular, it takes several weeks for the result to settle. It takes 3 months to appreciate the result.

The operation is not very painful, the presence of locks in the nasal cavities to prevent bleeding makes the first night unpleasant. Edema (swelling) will appear in the lower eyelids, as well as ecchymoses (bruises) which are transient and variable depending on the individual.

  • The postoperative course is not very painful for the first few days.

  • An analgesic treatment will be prescribed for a few days.

  • The first dressings and wicks are removed after 24 hours.

It is recommended to rest the first 3 days. The splint is kept on for 7 to 10 days depending on the surgical work performed.

  • The splint is removed: after 7 to 10 days

  • Special care: Rinse the nasal cavities with gomenolated oil and physiological saline, as soon as they are removed.

  • No sutures to remove: everything is absorbable.

  • Resumption of physical activities after cosmetic surgery of the nose: 1 month

  • Deadline for the final result: 1 year

The scars being inside, it is recommended to do a nasal wash, 3 times a day for the first 3 weeks, to eliminate the crusts and facilitate breathing, temporarily hampered.
