Thigh lift

The thigh lift is the procedure that redrapes the excess skin on the thighs, following its relaxation.

It is frequently associated with liposuction of the thighs.

Anesthesia : general

Duration of the intervention : 1h30 to 2h30

Recovery : 10 to 15 days

Pre-operative assessment: blood test, chest x-ray for smokers

and an electrocardiogram for people over 45.

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that tightens the skin on the inner thighs and removes excess skin.

The thigh lift removes excess skin from the upper part of the thigh, on the inner side of the thighs.

As with any surgery, the thigh lift has permanent scars.

We distinguish 2 types of scars:

1)  horizontal scar

The thigh lift scar follows the furrow that separates the inner part of the thigh from the genitals. It extends from the gluteal fold behind, to the groin fold in front.
The thigh lift scar is then completely hidden in the underwear.

2)  T-scar

In rarer cases, where the vertical skin excess is very important, the scar is T-shaped.
It combines the horizontal scar described above with a vertical scar, located on the inside of each thigh.

Like all scars, thigh lift scars are permanent. Their appearance may be red and visible for several months. Totally unpredictable, their final appearance should not be judged before 1 year. They must be protected from the sun for about 1 year.

What are the consequences after a thigh lift?

The postoperative course can be painful for the first few days.

An analgesic treatment will be prescribed for a few days.
The first dressings are removed after 24 hours.

In a classic and usual way, there are during the first weeks or the first months following the arm lift:

edema (swelling) and ecchymoses (“bruises”). Of variable importance, they are often asymmetrical. They persist for 15 to 21 days.
A decrease or disappearance of the sensitivity of the inside of the arms.
Sometimes pain, which is well relieved by analgesic treatments.
The work stoppage period is 7 to 10 days.
The period of cessation of sports activities is 2 months.

Imperfections of results

Most often, a lift of the inner thighs is a real service to patients with obtaining a satisfactory result.

However, localized imperfections may exist: they concern in particular the scar which may be a little too visible, distended, or even adherent.

In case of excessive tension imposed on the sutures, we can observe a lowering, see a migration down the scar.

The scars are subject to the vagaries of any healing with the risk of an evolution  hypertrophic, which will require specific treatment.

These imperfections in the result are generally accessible to additional treatment: "small surgical touch-ups" carried out under local anesthesia or thorough local anesthesia, but not before the sixth postoperative month.
